Pin Grading Guide

Please keep in mind that enamel pins are handmade and as such, often have flaws. I DO NOT SELL S GRADE/COLLECTOR'S GRADE ITEMS. Please do not purchase if you are expecting perfect pins.

STANDARD GRADE
These pins have flaws that are noticeable upon up-close inspection and at an angle. The front of the pin is considered much more than the sides or back. These faults can include (but aren't limited to):

  • Imperfections on the gloss finish of the pin
  • Pieces of extra enamel paint around the edges of the pin
  • Tiny air bubbles in the enamel
  • Small scuff marks or nicks on the pin
  • Small dust or fluff caught in gloss finish
  • Small imperfections on the outlines of the pin
  • Minor offsets in screen printing
  • Tiny amounts of under-filled enamel
  • Minor inconsistencies in thickness of outlines
  • Chipped paint on the back or sides of the pin

SECONDS GRADE
These pins have more noticeable faults  The front of the pin is considered much more than the sides or back. These faults can include (but aren't limited to):

  • Imperfections on the gloss finish of the pin
  • Medium to large marks or nicks on the pin
  • Medium to large scratches on the enamel or outlines
  • Medium to large inconsistencies in thickness of outlines
  • More noticeable dust or fluff caught in gloss finish
  • Moderately scuffed enamel or metal
  • Large amount of imperfections on the outlines
  • Several air bubbles in the enamel
  • More noticeable offset in the screen printing
  • Overfilled enamel that floods some metal lines
